Stop Gross Dam Campaign

A coalition of citizens of Colorado, residents of the plains and foothills communities and local businesses and non-profits working together to stop the unnecessary expansion of Gross Dam, located in the foothills above Boulder and Golden, CO. The continuous draining of the rivers of our state, destruction of local and rural communities, and disregard for natural systems must end. Join our coalition and help preserve the things that make Colorado great.

Water for Sprawl

- Candelas / 93 corridor sprawl
- No conservation required / Golf courses ok
- Privately owned toll road and big box stores
 - Bad for local business / Strain on Boulder community
- Increased traffic and greenhouse gas emissions

Stop the Expansion of Gross Dam

Gross Reservoir is a Denver Water storage site.  Colorado residents and tourists alike enjoy its beauty, waterfalls, and hiking and bike trails.  The reservoir expansion proposed by Denver Water would remove over 30,000 trees, interrupt elk migration routes and disturb habitats for other treasured creatures, which would be affected by 5+ years of heavy construction.

Scientific analysis shows that if Denver Water were to more conscientiously conserve water and use modern approaches to water management, there would never be a need to build new dams or expand Gross Reservoir.  Watering non-native grass lawns consumes much of the potable water Denver Water diverts from the other side of the Divide, from the threatened tributaries of the Colorado River.  Metro Denver residents must become more water conscious for the sake of our treasured planet. Think Permaculture. Think Xeriscape.

Outdated Approaches Destroy Communities and State

- Expansion takes water from depleted Colorado River
- Fraser River ecosystems/fisheries collapse
- Pipes Colorado River water through Continental Divide
 - Denver residents see rate increases
- Foothills communities in danger
 - Bad for Colorado's tourism business
- Water for Fracking?
- Plutonium dust likely poisons Arvada, Westminster, Golden and beyond
- Denver Water / Army Corps ignore modern water management techniques
- Developers profit/citizens pay

An Unnecessary Expansion

Purchase The Book
This soft-cover, 40-page coffee table book shows some of the beautiful landscapes and wildlife that would be harmed by Denver’s proposed but unnecessary expansion of Gross Reservoir. Inspired by a request for photographs from a Boulder County commissioner, my hope is that these pictures will help highlight just one of the many gorgeous settings that would be damaged by the expansion.
